What Is a Financial Market?
A financial market is simply a place — physical or digital — where people come together to buy and sell things of value, such as company shares, bonds, commodities, or currencies. No single building houses the whole market; instead, it is a network of banks, brokers, institutions, and individual traders connected through computers worldwide.
Markets exist because people have different needs at different times. A company might need cash today and sell shares to get it, while an investor might have spare cash and want to put it to work. The market is the meeting point that matches these needs.

The Main Types of Financial Markets
Stock markets let investors buy small ownership pieces of companies, called shares. Bond markets let governments and companies borrow money from investors in exchange for regular interest payments. Commodity markets trade physical goods like gold, oil, and wheat.
The foreign exchange (forex or FX) market is where one country's currency is exchanged for another. It is the largest financial market in the world by trading volume, because currencies are needed for nearly every type of international trade, travel, and investment.

Understanding that every price on your screen reflects real buyers and sellers agreeing on a value is the first mental shift toward thinking like a trader rather than a gambler.
